Congress can block DC laws, restrict how local funds are spent, and impose federal budget riders that deny the District revenue. One clear example is cannabis. DC voters legalized possession, but Congress still blocks the District from regulating and taxing recreational sales, denying millions in revenue that could be reinvested in communities harmed by the War on Drugs.

DC’s budget is under real strain, not because residents are asking for too much, but because revenue is not keeping pace with the economy or with the responsibilities DC is required to carry. The District relies primarily on local property, income, and sales taxes, along with federal funds that make up about a quarter of total revenue. Unlike states, DC must fund both city and state level services, including Medicaid, unemployment insurance, and human services, while lacking full control over its own budget.

DC voters legalized possession, but Congress still blocks the District from regulating and taxing recreational sales, denying millions in revenue that could be reinvested in communities harmed by the War on Drugs.

At the same time, DC’s tax code and development strategy continue to favor the wealthy. Capital gains, inherited wealth, and high value property remain lightly taxed, while working families carry a disproportionate share of the load. The District has increasingly relied on mechanisms like Opportunity Zones, Tax Increment Financing (TIFs), and long term bonding to spur development without clear accountability for results. Too often, these tools shift risk onto future taxpayers while delivering limited public benefit. Without change, revenue will continue to lag behind economic growth, putting…

And when I was in law school in 2016, it was clear that state governments were salivating over marijuana taxes and that there was a massive lobby. I argued that governments could get addicted to marijuana taxes the way the Russian government got addicted to vodka taxes but that was dismissed without an argument. And now we are seeing more evidence that marijuana doesn't trigger schizophrenia, it causes a schizophrenia-like condition. It time, we will probably recognize marijuana resulting in b

Puerto Ricans overwhelmingly reject statehood in Fox News Digital interviews, citing fears of economic collapse, higher taxes, and the erosion of their cultural identity. Residents on the island and in the mainland U.S. pushed back hard on the idea of becoming the 51st state — even as Puerto Rico's pro-statehood governor continues to champion the cause alongside President Trump. One woman compared the potential outcome to what happened to Hawaii. Alejandra from San Juan said locals are "already been struggling for a while now" and statehood would "make stuff even worse." The concerns went deeper than economics. Residents pointed to a fear of losing what makes Puerto Rico uniquely Puerto Rican. "It will lose the heart and soul," one resident said.
Why the drama? This is about celebrating the legacy of Mr. Chuck Brown.

Today is a victory for the Constitution, the rule of law, and generations of American families. Birthright citizenship is not up for political debate it is a constitutional guarantee. While this fight is far from over, today’s decision reminds us that no one, not even a president, is above the Constitution. We will keep defending the promise of America for everyone.
This voter intimidation should be ignored. We are the biggest democracy in the world and there is room in this democracy for many ideologies, and thank God the Constitution protects them. I am behind @Janeese4DC 100%.

Q: Here in Washington DC, there's a Democratic primary for mayor. One of the two leading candidates is running a Zohran Mamdani campaign focusing on socialist policies. How would you feel if she wins? TRUMP: Maybe we take back Washington and run it on a federal basis. We won't put up with it.

🚨MUST SEE AMERICA! TEXANS ARE RISING UP "I WAS KIDNAPPED BY MUSLIMS" - GREAT-GRANDSON OF SAM HOUSTON & DAVY CROCKETT DESTROYS FRISCO MOSQUE PLAN This one hit like a thunderbolt. Joel Teemi, direct descendant of Texas legends, stood before the Frisco City Council last night and delivered pure fire: “My great grandfather was the first president of the Texas Republic… Sam Houston. Another great-grandfather fought at the Alamo… Davy Crockett. My great-great-great-grandfathers fought under George Washington in the Continental Army.” Born on Langley Air Force Base. Military family for generations. He went into ministry instead, preached in 58 countries. In 2021 he was kidnapped and held hostage by Islamic supremacists in the Middle East while caring for the widows and children of the 21 Coptic Christians beheaded by ISIS on that Libyan beach. His own young children have lived on the front lines. Their friends were killed by Muslims. His message was crystal clear and unapologetic: “I don’t want to bring a mosque to Texas ever. We shouldn’t have one here. It’s incompatible with what it means to be an American.” He pointed to true assimilation: his brother’s wife, a former Muslim from India, converted to Catholicism, learned English, and joined a church, instead of demanding a mosque. “Christ is King… Stay true to your roots.” Real Texas bloodlines are showing up and saying NO. Frisco is awake. Texas is awake. The fight continues.
I hope DC voters also get this one right.@kinney4dc

I am so honored and privileged to have the former Attorney General @EricHolder behind me in the DC Delegate's race. He says that: “This moment demands more than another politician. Replacing the legendary Eleanor Holmes Norton requires someone with toughness, resilience and the ability to fight and win on the national stage. Kinney Zalesne is that person. She has Eleanor‘s backbone and persistence and the experience of getting results that DC urgently needs as Trump‘s attacks leave the city more vulnerable than at any point in my lifetime.” Thank you so much for your endorsement, Eric!
